If the subwoofer has only one set of spring clips, the subwoofer must share the same receiver connections as the speakers. Consider buying a car powered subwoofer

Will a sub work without an amp?

The 8 ohm speaker will work – however, it comes with a price. Just so you know, class D car amplifiers are more efficient and therefore waste less power than standard class A/B amps. You’ll need a power supply with a decent amperage rating. Step 4: Connect The Home Theater Speakers
Check if your rating is a bit higher than your fuses on your amplifier. If you go under it, it may not be enough to blow fuses which could lead to damage of your wires, power supply or even burn them down. Now you see why its better to get class D for higher amounts of power, that's 200W difference for 500W amplifier. Mainly when choosing amplifier you are gonna choose between Class AB and Class D designs. Most people are using class AB on mids and highs while going for class D on subwoofers.
Connect it to a source of power that is on only when you turn your key. If you notice problems, it is likely from a faulty connection. Make sure the wires are secure and well-connected, including the ground wire.
There may be different color wires like blue, red, green, black, etc. If you want a better sound quality at your home theater system you can attach a subwoofer meant for your car stereo system. It’s really an easy task and you require only a few things and proper management. The top picture has just the speaker cables connected to the stereo amp; the bottom picture has the speaker and subwoofer cables connected. SLA or Gel types are good for this since they are mostly closed and have better discharge capabilities .
Expose these channels by lifting up the carpeting or trim panels. A 15 ft (4.6 m) RCA wire with both red and white connectors. You need to attach your chosen amplifier to the subwoofer.
